Memento focuses on memory and end-of-life dementia, particularly the phenomenon of “terminal lucidity,” where dementia patients may briefly regain memories before their death. The animated short depicts an elderly man, based on my grandfather Les Button, recalling significant life memories in his final moments. The story is deeply personal, informed by my own research into memory recollection, end-of-life lucidity, and extended family experiences.
