‘Mana Wahine’ reaffirms the mana in wāhine through clothing, and celebrates the inherent worth of women. This collection aims to decolonise Aotearoa's fashion by celebrating mātauranga Māori, while "othering" Eurocentric clothing. It recognises the oppression that Māori (particularly wāhine) faced in the 1800s due to colonisation; how changing the way that Māori dressed greatly served the "civilising" of NZ. ‘Mana Wahine’ is a manifestation of my journey in learning more about my Māori heritage, and celebrates Kākahu (cloak) silhouettes and Te Whare Pora (the house of weaving).
