Maia Patterson’s body of work reflects on the experience of dealing with anxieties surrounding death, abjection and the animalistic nature of the human. An ontological body of work, 'Extremis', reflects on what it is to be in states of fear in the contemporary world and to be at the absolute limit of experience. Her current works conjure aspects of the human condition, our innate mode of survival and self-preservation, but also the changing of Western attitudes towards death.
