‘Ma’au’ conveys a yearning for home. I painted on windows from the house I grew up in, thinking about the instability and elusivity of the concept of home. There is an excerpt from a Samoan proverb 'ma’au i le vai', meaning ‘return to the water.’ Fostering an awareness of water helps us to conceive beyond our own timeline - understanding the places we reside as they were and will be.
