This project was an interrogation of fundamental questions about value and meaning when considering the nature of our transactions with certain products.

Unit represents a manifestation of a concept for a particular type of transaction, which is ‘Talkative’, and challenges users to deeply consider the type of experience they are having with the product.

The cantilevered seats forewarn us to approach with a degree of trepidation. When two people are seated at the table, they directly address one another in an intimate engagement.

The thin chair backs slide along the seat and lock in place. Straddling the seat invites a sense of strength and purpose to the act of sitting.

By intentionally limiting decorative details, our attention is drawn to the essential shapes of each component and their relationship to one another. The homogeneous wooden surfaces of Unit contradict its stark appearance. The wood is soft to the touch, personable, and relatable.
