This research explores how housing design can integrate te ao Māori worldviews to develop a framework that prioritises whenua. It also examines how homes can be adapted to create flexible environments that support Māori communities. Currently, residential design guides in Aotearoa often overlook the impact of urban development on the natural environment. This approach presents strategies that prioritise whenua and acknowledge the connection between tāngata, whenua and whare.
