Rotating the map to view Aotearoa through the eyes of our tūpuna.
Kaupapa framework guided through three stages. Karanga, the act of being welcomed home. Whaikōrero, where wānanga, hui, kōrero and hīkoi took place. Hongi, sharing a breath.
Using whakapapa plotting as my main spatial tool, to appropriately express Te Ao Māori in both physical and holistic spaces.
The heru structure is intentionally non-confronting, embedding itself into Papa. Her whakapapa is connected through both the form and materials sourced from her.

Te Kore, ka mua, ka muri.
Te Whai Ao, the whare that stands.
Te Ao Mārama, the awa that flows.

E tū Rangimarie Makomako marks the beginning of the marae rebuilding process. As a koha, three proposed pouwhenua are thoughtfully positioned that offer recognition to our whakapapa, pūrākau, and enhance the voice of tāngata whenua. Our tūpuna are embedded in us and our whakapapa is embedded in the land - Pāoa ki uta, Pāoa ki tai.
