“Can House become Home?” is a project that investigates, documents, and highlights what the electronic music space in central Aotearoa is like for Queer and BIPOC folk that participate in the space. It is exploring the idea of safe(r) spaces and the importance for the upkeep of these spaces.

What my project set out to do was simultaneously be a call to action to those in the Aotearoa music scene that are not inclusive of all people (the mainstream clubbing space) and to show young queer & BIPOC youth that there is a safe space for you to express who you are. What motivated this project for me was being from a small town, seeing my queer and BIPOC friends being discriminated against in a club space, and being enraged by that. I wanted to show the beauty in connection and community with open arms to anyone that would like to learn or participate.
